Its grape is often blended (bordolese) with other complementary grape types such as Cabernet Franc and Merlot for the production of excellent wines. Its diffusion in Italy started in Piedmont region the early nineteenth century. Today it is the most popular wine vine in the world and its grape is essential for the production of the greatest red wines.
