Notes
Montepulciano is a red fruit species of vine. It is one of the most prestigious red Italian wines and it is suitable for a long aging. It is widely distributed especially in central-South Italy where it contributes to give grapes in order to produce lots of DOC wines.
AMPELOGRAPHIC CHARACTERS
It has a medium almost compact cylindrical-conical often winged bunch with a medium oval black-purple grape, with a difficult separation; the peel is consistant and pruinose; the pulp is juicy, lightly rose-coloured with a natural taste.
CULTIVATION CHARACTERS
That’s a good vigour species of vine with a late germination and a medium vine shoot. It prefers soils of medium texture with a medium quantity of clay and lime-stone and hot, dry climates for the regular ripening of grapes. It requires not expanded forms of growing and medium-short pruning.
PRODUCTION AND VINTAGE
The production is good and enough constant both in short and in long pruning. The variety ripes between the middle and the end of September.
WINE CHARACTERS
The wine has an intense ruby red colour sometimes tannic and alcoholic, soft and suitable for aging with a bitter aftertaste. From white wine-making you can obtain a rose-red coloured, juicy, sapid and really pleasant wine. |
